-When is my child ready to start learning an instrument?
Children ages 4-6 may start in our Music Exploration Class. This class is specifically designed for this age group and features lots of movement and activity to keep younger kids engaged. After 2 semesters of Music Exploration, many students are ready to start learning an instrument. However, be aware that these younger students will need more parent support when practicing at home.
If your child is older than 6, they may start private lessons or a group class. 

-Will I need an instrument at my house in order to start?
Students in Music Exploration class will not need an instrument at home.
Students taking private or group lessons will need an instrument in good working order at home on which they can practice weekly assignments.
Piano students may start with a keyboard but ideally should look for one that has 88 weighted keys and a sustain pedal.
Violin students may choose to rent an instrument from a shop or purchase an instrument. Violins come in different sizes, so having your child measured for the correct size is crucial. They will need to move up to instruments of a bigger size as they grow.

-What are the practice expectations?
There are no practice requirements for students in Music Exploration classes.
Students taking private or group lessons are expected to practice according to the schedule agreed upon with the teacher. Daily time needed to complete weekly assignments ranges from approximately 20 minutes per day (for beginners) to 60+ minutes per day (for advanced students).

-What is the lesson schedule?
Our private lessons operate on a semesterly schedule, similar to the school system. Our fall semester typically includes 14 weeks of lessons (late August through early December) while the spring semester includes 16 weeks of lessons (early January through early May).

-What if I don’t start at the beginning of the semester?
Students may start any time during the year and their tuition will be pro-rated to account for this. 

-How does tuition for private lessons work?
Our tuition is also charged on a semesterly basis. The rate is based on the length of the lesson you choose to have each week and our rates start at $28/per weekly 30 minute session. 
This amount is multiplied by the number of weeks in the semester and you have the option to pay in full at the beginning of the semester or divide your total into 4 equal monthly installments spread throughout the semester. 
In addition to your weekly lesson slot, your tuition includes any needed customized lesson planning, recital access and preparation, access to studio music and learning resources during lessons and ability to communicate with the teacher during the week for needed support or clarification to lesson assignments.

-What if I need to miss a lesson?
Students may reschedule up to 2 lessons per semester if they have given at least 24 hours notice before the missed lesson (exceptions to the 24 hour rule can be made if the student is sick). The missed lesson may be scheduled for a later time in the same week if there is availability in the schedule or we also offer an extra week at the end of each semester to help accommodate missed lessons. 

-Do you offer recitals?
Yes! We offer at least one recital performance opportunity for private lesson students each semester, typically at the end of the semester.
